ClassDo’s efforts to help transfer MENDAKI Tuition Scheme classes online get recognised

Berita Harian, 21 Mar 2021 - The circuit breaker (CB) implemented last year to curb the spread of Covid19 meant students on the MENDAKI Tuition Scheme (MTS) were unable to attend their tuition classes as usual. However, this did not mean that the guidance for the around 8,000 MTS students stopped just like that during the CB for two months. This was because MENDAKI had successfully moved all tuition classes organised at nearly 90 centers into online, through ClassDo's virtual classrooms.
MENDAKI's Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ms Aidaroyani Adam, said the collaboration with ClassDo was not the first but an extension of previous collaborations. Two years ago, MENDAKI had used ClassDo's virtual classroom to offer online tuition for its students on a small scale.
"We moved the MTS classes conducted at the mosque to the ClassDo platform when mosques were ordered to close around March. Then when CB started in April, we expanded the use of the platform and started offering e-MTS. We found the platform very useful and easy to use by both tutors and students. This had allowed weekly classes to run as usual," she said.
MENDAKI is still using the ClassDo platform as some MTS classes are still conducted online.
ClassDo was one of the recipients of the 2021 IT Leader Awards - Tech Heroes From the Crisis, under the Infrastructure category presented at the Singapore Computer Society (SCS) IT Leader Awards presentation ceremony recently.
The award for the Infrastructure category recognises individuals or teams who implement or deploy digital services on infrastructure or foundations that have been widely used in the provision of digital services to benefit a large country or segment of society during the Covid-19 crisis.
According to the founder and CEO of ClassDo, Mr. Chung Chiew Farn, his team had worked with MENDAKI before the pandemic to offer a solution for the waiting list problem faced by MENDAKI.
"MENDAKI is among the many organisations we help. Before and after the pandemic, we shared a lot of good practices with MENDAKI. For example, we can't bring everything from physical tuition classes completely online. Teachers can't just turn on the camera and move on. ClassDo offers effective interactions, something fun, that makes students want to learn," he said.
Mr Chung added that some of the challenges faced by MTS students included access to devices for taking online classes. This issue was resolved as ClassDo could be used on all devices including cheap smartphones.
Fortunately, the ClassDo platform does not require any applications to be downloaded. Students only need to click the link provided via email, he said. In addition, ClassDo also allows teachers to upload and save all teaching materials on its platform, and helps teachers take student attendance.
Mr Chung said since the Covid-19 pandemic, ClassDo has seen the use of its services rise 50-fold compared to before, with schools as well as corporate companies among those taking advantage of it.
